Patterns for Print
Illustration
Exploring the blurry boundaries between the digital and analogue practices has always been a fascination of mine.
Why shouldn’t a track pad and a pencil work in perfect harmony?
Inspired by my surroundings, I attempt to translate what I can see in the environment into patterns. If I visit a new place I enjoy taking time to get to know the area and then by not only illustrating what I can see but also visualising the ‘feel of a place’ - the smells, the sounds and the atmosphere.
Doodle with a purpose.
While most of these patterns started out as hand drawn pen doodles, some were then digitised to become screen prints. It amazes me how versatile these prints have become and how each intricate detail can be captured in so many mediums. From the stripped back, black and white fine-liner execution to the striking layers of colourful ink when screen-printed and overprinted.
